The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) are celebrating with immense pride and joy the historic moment brought about by the landmark championship won by the GILAS PILIPINAS MEN’S TEAM at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China – 2023.

In this connection, both the SBP Board of Trustees and PBA Board of Governors are issuing joint Board Resolutions commending the exemplary work of PBA Governor and Gilas Team Manager Alfrancis Chua and PBA Commissioner and Gilas Deputy Team Manager Willie Marcial , who both exhibited outstanding “hands on” management skills in providing the proper motivation and daily inspiration to the team while in tournament in a foreign land, ultimately resulting in winning the GOLD for the nation and millions of basketball — loving Filipino fans after more than six (6) decades.

The SBP and PBA Boards are likewise citing the unqualified all-out support of SBP Chairman Emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan and SMC President and CEO Ramon S. Ang, whose individual and combined passion for the upliftment of Philippine basketball has motivated the entire team to aim high and never say die. We would also like to acclaim GILAS Head Coach Tim Cone, the players and the rest of the team for this remarkable triumph which will leave an indelible mark in the annals of Philippine sports history.
