The Gilas Pilipinas Men 3×3 team remained perfect in the 19th Asian Games campaign after outlasting Chinese Taipei, 17-12, Tuesday in Hangzhou, China.
Bryan Sajonia led the scoring department anew with six points while John Rey Pasaol and Justine Sanchez contributed four points each. Bismarck Lina wasn’t far behind with his three points.
After Chinese Taipei’s Lin Sin Kuan nailed a 2-pointer to slice Gilas’ lead to just one, 9-8, Pasaol connected on back-to-back baskets and Sajonia converted on his attack to push the advantage back to four.
With under a minute left and the Philippines ahead, 13-9, Chinese Taipei made one last attempt at a comeback after a 2-pointer from Yu Xiang-Ping. Both teams traded buckets in the ensuing possessions and Lina was able to seal the victory after a pair of free throws with 18 seconds remaining.
Gilas Men 3×3 is now 2-0 in Pool A following their win over Jordan yesterday. The top team in each pool will advance to the quarterfinals.
The Philippines will face Hong Kong on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
