With the role and influence of players’ Agents growing significantly, often taking a leading role in the safeguarding of players’ image rights, the management of their financial affairs while also providing career and transfer guidance, it is crucial that a player selects someone they can trust and who places the player’s overall interests at the core of advice and decisions and someone who has the knowledge and understanding to do so. With the aim of ensuring a basic minimum standard of maintaining transparency and avoiding hidden conflicts of interest, FIBA introduced a licensing system for player agents in 2007.
