Dwight Ramos poured 31 points but the undermanned Gilas Pilipinas Men lost another close battle against Korea, 106-102, in their second meeting in the KB Kookmin Bank Invitational Saturday at the Anyang Gymnasium in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.

Ramos hammered a huge dunk to make it a two-point game with under 15 seconds left but free throws sealed the win for Korea. Ramos finished the contest with an efficient 13-for-17 from the field, including 3-for-5 from deep. He also added eight rebounds and three assists.

Gilas, who was already without Ange Kouame and Dave Ildefonso, was down to nine players after Lebron Lopez suffered an apparent ankle injury in the first half. Nonetheless, the national team showed grit and resolve, particularly in the fourth quarter. The Philippines was staring at an 82-74 deficit entering the final frame but was able to fight back amid a boisterous crowd.

Rhenz Abando tallied 19 points, highlighted by four triples, on top of five rebounds and two blocks. RJ Abarrientos was equally productive with 17 points built on five treys. Carl Tamayo added 12 points and six assists.

The men’s national team lost, 96-92, last Friday in the first encounter against Korea. Gilas climbed back from a 17-point hole before its comeback bid fell short.

The two games were part of Gilas’ preparations for the upcoming third window of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers.
